Construction of school and medical unit in Morava (Aug -Dec 2002)

The project was realized with the voluntary work of the roma community of Morava village, Berat.
Constructing a school for roma children wasn’t the only goal of the support of Spolu International Foundation and “Amaro-Drom”, but first of all we aimed to make the members of this community aware of their capacity, self-organization and self-management of the activity.
The steering board of the roma community with the help of Amaro Drom negotiated with the Local Authorities and Educational Institute for the realization of the project. This was the first step in the long way of the integration of the roma community of Morava, which was followed by the successful realization of other projects.

The Message of the President of the Union of the Albanian Roma “Amaro-Drom” Z.Skender Veliu:

PEACE FOR ROMA ALL OVER THE WORLD.
EQUALITY, INTEGRATION AND PROSPERITY.
A WORLD WITHOUT DISCRIMINATION, RACISM AND WAR.
BUT BAX SARRE E RROMENGE.

“SOMETIMES WE MAY FEEL VERY SMALL COMPARED TO THE HUGENESS OF THE CHALLENGES THAT THE ROMA CONTINUE TO FACE AND THE COURAGE MANY OF THEM SHOW IN FIGHTING THE OVERWHELMING ODDS THAT ARE STACKED AGAINST THEM. SPOLU SEES IT AS A PRIVILEGE TO WORK WITH THESE PEOPLE CLOSELY AND TO KNOW MANY OF THEM BY NAME. IT IS, FOR CERTAIN, THAT THIS CLOSENESS INSPIRES OUR WORK AND, PERHAPS ALSO, MAKES IT SO BEAUTIFUL”.
